What we do

We ensure non-school based, early years foundation stage providers are inclusive and support the identification and development of children with SEND by working in partnership.

We support the educational development of pupils with SEND arising from one or more identified learning need in the areas of cognition and learning, speech, language and communication and/or social, behavioural, emotional and wellbeing.

We work with parents, caregivers and professionals to ensure an integrated approach to the planning and support of teaching and learning for young children (under statutory school age).

We deliver training and support to parents, caregivers, childcare providers, early education providers and in the private, voluntary and independent sector (including childminders).  This enables children with disabilities and additional needs to receive appropriate and inclusive childcare and early learning when accessing their setting.

We also offer Information, advice, training, and guidance to families, caregivers and Early Years setting/pre-school staff for independent skills development eg Toilet Training.

We have dedicated resources covering a range of topics. In some cases, we will provide advice and signposting to other relevant professionals.

The specialist teachers can recommend a bespoke intervention such as a particular activity, particular resources or using a different way of teaching and learning. This bespoke provision is  reviewed on a regular basis to inform whether it is making a difference. Parent/caregiver’s and child’s views are a key part of this process.

Support can also be provided to children when they are transitioning into primary education, including practical advice and guidance.

Where there is evidenced significant delay in a child’s achievement of developmental milestones in one or more areas of need (cognitive, language, physical, social–emotional) and they have been referred to INSPIRE we can provide strategies/interventions and targets to support a child’s development.

As part of our Sensory Inclusion Team we also work with:

  • Pre-school children from birth, including attendance at hospital and clinic appointments
  • Support for families, regarding general concerns about co occurring SEND
  • Advice on teaching strategies to support access. For example, multi-sensory approaches, adaptive teaching and managing the physical environment
